City of Lost Children - 7:00 pm
This is a strange French movie that's a mix of fantasy and science fiction. Here's the unusual plot: The evil Krank and his henchmen have been made by a mad scientist. Krank's problem is that he is tormented by his inability to dream. He finds it necessary to try to steal the dreams of children, but since they fear him, he only gets their nightmares. When a circus strongman's little brother is kidnapped, the strongman (One) tracks him down and, with the help of some other eccentric characters, tries to put an end to the evil reign of Krank and his Cyclops army. If you like Terry Gilliam movies (Brazil, Fisher King, 12 Monkeys), you'll probably dig this one. Oh by the way, Angelo Badalamenti of Twin Peaks fame composed the music for this movie.
Bottle Rocket - 9:00 pm
This is an offbeat comedy about three average guys who decide they want to become criminals but they're not very good at it. It was written and directed by Wes Anderson who I think funded the movie himself so it was kind of a Blair Witch thing. It stars the hilarious Owen Wilson (who also co-wrote the screenplay) as the criminal "mastermind". You might recognize him because he has since become a little more famous, appearing in movies like The Haunting and Anaconda. Oh, somehow they also got big name actor James Caan to make an appearance as Mr. Henry, a real crook who the guys look up to. Check this movie out - I know you'll like it.
